USA: Amtrak President & CEO Stephen Gardner has announced the separation of the roles, with Roger Harris to become President from July 5. Gerhard Williams will become Executive Vice-President, Service Delivery & Operations.

‘Amtrak has entered an exciting new era of growth and development, with more opportunities than ever before’, said Gardner on June 23. The two appointments ‘will help the company accelerate our progress in recovering, growing and transforming the business’.

Harris has been Chief Commercial Officer since April 2019. As President, he will report to Gardner and lead co-ordination of the service delivery and operations, marketing, customer service, network planning, real estate and accessibility functions.

A successor as Chief Commercial Officer is being sought.

Williams meanwhile is succeeding Scot Naparstek, who is retiring. He will be responsible for leading the strategic development of Amtrak’s operating capabilities, including the transport, mechanical, infrastructure and customer service functions, as well as overseeing the day-to-day delivery of on-train and station services.
