ARMENIA: Transmashholding has been awarded a contract to supply 27 coaches and two electric multiple-units to South Caucasus Railway, a Russian Railways subsidiary which operates the Armenian network under a long-term concession agreement.

The order includes 21 Type 61-4517 sleeping cars with compartments and a total of 36 berths, and six Type 61-4516 platskartny third class cars with 54 dormitory-style berths. All berths will be equipped with power and USB sockets, and there will be vending machines and coffee makers on board. The sleeping car compartments will have televisions. The two-car EP2D EMUs will be 44.8 m long and have a maximum speed of 120 km/h.

The coaches are scheduled to be delivered in May and June, and the EMUs by August.

South Caucasus Railway is also planning a complete renewal of its wagon fleet in 2021-24, having taken delivery of 70 open wagons supplied by Uralvagonzavod last year.
