RUSSIA: Russian Railways has approved the technical design of 61-4501 and 61-4502 baggage cars developed by Transmashholding’s Tver plant. The stainless steel cars will be suitable for 160 km/h operation, enabling their use in regular and express passenger trains, as well as special postal and baggage services.

One version of the 61-4501 will be entirely dedicated to baggage, while a variant could also be used to carry up to eight cars on two levels. The 61-4502 cars will have a staff area including a stewards’ compartment, toilet, shower and boiler room. A variant would offer a heated baggage compartment for goods which could be damaged if exposed to low temperatures. There will be attachments to hold down loads up to 500 kg.
