RUSSIA: An agreement to expand Russian Railways’ high speed train fleet was signed by the operator, Sinara Group and Siemens Mobility at InnoTrans 2018 on September 18.

By March 31 RZD and the Ural Locomotives joint venture of Siemens and Sinara are to prepare an agreement for the supply of 11 trainsets ‘similar’ to the existing fleet of 16 Sapsan-branded 250 km/h Siemens Velaro RUS 10-car trainsets, as well as for coaches to lengthen the existing trainsets to 11 cars.

Existing maintenance agreements would also be expanded to cover the new stock.

In addition, the parties are to consider the possibility of licensing the production of new electric passenger rolling stock in Russia for operation in the 1 520 mm gauge region.
