TURKEY: The first ‘National High Speed Train’ with a design speed of 225 km/h has reached 90% completion, Minister of Transport & Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has announced.

The eight-car, aluminium-bodied electric multiple-units are being manufactured by state-owned supplier Türasaş, which is now nearing completion of fitting the first train’s interior.

A batch of 15 trainsets, including one prototype, is being manufactured by 2028. The first vehicle is planned to be put on the rails later this year ahead of a programme of test running, according to Uraloğlu. The vehicles are to be used to augment the existing 31 high speed trainsets in service on the national network.

The trains will have capacity for 577 passengers. They will feature an automatic emergency braking system and automatically adjusted air conditioning. Other features include a fire alarm, audio and visual passenger information systems and CCTV cameras.

The train is also to be equipped with wi-fi, food and drink vending machines. It is to have two compartments for disabled passengers and lifts to assist them to board.

Rail and defence specialist Aselsan is supplying traction, control and train management systems including transformers, traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors and train control management systems.

Türasaş has already developed a ‘national suburban trainset’ and a National Electric Train multiple-unit.
