GCRE site

INTERNATIONAL: Singapore Land Transport Authority and the Global Centre of Rail Excellence in Wales have signed a memorandum of understanding covering knowledge transfer, staff development and joint project work.

The scope of the MoU covers areas such as test centre development, engineering innovation, commercial planning, procurement processes and operational best practice. The two organisations will also work together on asset management approaches, and on operational and maintenance projects.

GCRE was established with support from the Welsh government in 2021.It is to provide rolling stock and infrastructure testing facilities using purpose-built tracks and research facilities, as well as offering commercial rolling stock storage services.

The land acquisition process for the 700 ha site at the former Nant Helen-Onllwyn opencast coal mine and washery 25 km northeast of Swansea was completed in October. The first phase of development is due to be completed by mid-2025.
