UK: A BCRRE Rail Innovation Cluster to support businesses looking to deliver to deliver greater value and innovation into the rail supply sector has been announced by the University of Birmingham’s Centre for Railway Research & Education during InnoTrans.

Building on BCRRE’s many years of experience in assisting SMEs to enter the rail industry as startups or through diversification from other sectors, the cluster will focus on three core areas:

  • collaborating with industry partners to accelerate and de-risk innovation projects;
  • supporting SMEs to innovate successfully, including developing collaborative projects utilising BCRRE’s world class research expertise;
  • using BCRRE’s international partnerships to create opportunities for UK companies to collaborate globally.

The cluster will be an industry-facing one-stop knowledge hub for SMEs, staffed by supply chain experts with sector knowledge and connections and equipped to bring new SMEs to the attention of contractors and manufacturers.
