RUSSIA: Nizhny Novgorod metro operator Nizhegorodskoe Metro signed a 1·3bn rouble contract on November 1 with Metrowagonmash and Sberbank Leasing for the supply of 23 metro cars.

Metrowagonmash is to supply 10 driving cars and 13 intermediate cars by the end of 2017. These are to be stabled at the Proletarskoye depot on the 14·8 km Avtozavodskaya Line.

Nizhegorodskoe Metro’s current fleet consist of 107 cars. The oldest date from the opening of the metro in 1985 and the newest date from 2013.

A one-station northern extension of the Sormovskaya Line to Strelka is due to open next year, with a further extension to Volga following in 2024.
