Cable Liner peoplemover in Venice.

ITALY: Travellers arriving in Venezia by car, bus or cruise ship can now enjoy panoramic views of the city as they travel by cable-hauled shuttle to the main transport hub at Piazzale Roma.

An 870 m long automated peoplemover installed by Doppelmayr and Siemens connects the port, car park and other facilities on the man-made island of Tronchetto to Piazzale Roma, gateway to the city’s historic centre. There is an intermediate stop at the railway station.

Two cars run on rubber tyres along the elevated track at 30 km/h and can each carry 200 passengers, providing a total capacity of 3 000 passengers/h per direction. The journey takes 3 min.

The €18m order was awarded to Doppelmayr Cable Car by Azienda Servizi Mobilità in 2006. Operations started on April 19.
