AUSTRALIA: Public Transport Victoria has ordered five more six-car X’Trapolis electric multiple-units from Alstom, to be used on Melbourne’s 1 600 mm gauge suburban network.

The extra units will follow a batch of another five six-car X’Trapolis EMUs that PTV ordered in 2015; these are due to be delivered from Alstom’s Ballarat plant in September. The new build will bring the total number of cars produced at the plant since 2002 to 552.

Alstom’s Australia & New Zealand Managing Director Mark Coxon said that the order ‘will not only secure the manufacturing pipeline in Victoria well into 2017 but also provide additional transport capacity to the residents of Melbourne’s area’.
