NETHERLANDS: Amsterdam has called tenders for the replacement of the city's metro trains, and the supply of stock for the north-south line now under construction.

GVB is seeking 23 six-car trainsets 114 to 118 m long and 3 m wide, with all axles driven. They will replace the existing fleet of 44 two-car units dating from 1977-80.

A further 12 six-car units are needed for the north-south line, and there will be four options for 10 six-car trainsets for future extensions.

A supplier will be selected in early 2009, with the first trains expected to arrive 24 months after the order is placed.
