Stadler is supplying Flirt multiple-units to Portugal

PORTUGAL: Stadler and Critical Software have formed the Stadler Digital Labs 51:49 joint venture to develop software for the rail sector.

This aims to combine Stadler’s railway experience with Critical Software’s expertise in embedded software engineering, safety-critical systems, cybersecurity and applied digital innovation in the rail, defence, space and medical sectors.

STADL will have an office in Coimbra and another at Critical Software’s Lisboa site. It will begin operations with a team of 100 people led by CEO Rogério Gomes, and has a goal of reaching 300 over the next three years.

‘Stadler Digital Labs reflects the strategic alignment between two organisations with converging visions regarding innovation, safety and the modernisation of the railway sector’, Gomes said on February 20. ‘Rail is not only a highly relevant area for the growth of the Portuguese economy, but also for the development of a safe and interoperable European mobility ecosystem.’
