WABTEC: Plans to transfer production activities from Wabtec’s Bochum site in Germany to Poli in Italy and Hosur in India have been announced, with the loss of around 200 jobs expected by the end of 2023.

The brake and coupler manufacturing and maintenance factory at Bochum was built in 2020, but the company told Railway Gazette International that the competitive environment had changed significantly in the past 1½ years, with greater cost pressures and increasing need for innovation. The company had concluded that the Bochum site was the least competitive, with the group’s overlapping competences providing opportunities for synergies

Wabtec’s original equipment business for German, Austria and Switzerland will be run from Bochum after the restructuring, including sales and project management and related engineering functions.
