Impression of Kansas City streetcar.

USA: CAF has been selected to supply four trams for the future Downtown Streetcar line in Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Sly James announced on October 4.

The 100% low-floor Urbos 3 vehicles will have a capacity of 148 passengers, and to meet Buy America requirements they are to be assembled in Elmira, New York. The order piggybacks on a $22m contract for five CAF trams awarded by Cincinnati.

'This vehicle is innovative, cutting-edge, and frosty, just like Kansas City,' said James. 'Downtown has undergone an undeniable transformation in the past few years and the streetcar will take that to another level.'

A joint venture of Herzog Contracting Corp and Stacy & Witbeck has been selected to build the 3·5 km line, which will run on-street north along Main Street from Union Station to a single-direction loop around City Market, with 10 stops. Opening is planned for autumn 2015.
