UK: Hitachi Rail Europe has awarded Dellner a contract to provide gangways for the Class 800 and Class 801 trainsets it is to supply under the Department for Transport's Intercity Express Programme.

The contract signed on December 9 is worth around £10m and covers 1 500 gangways, 1 732 couplers and 488 adapters for 866 cars for the East Coast and Great Western main lines. Swedish company Dellner will manufacture the gangways at its UK plant in Derbyshire, which will also provide after-sales support, spares, repairs and overhauls.

'During the contract selection process, Dellner were able to produce a prototype and mock-ups for us to test', said Hitachi Rail Europe Procurement Director Jamie Foster. 'Needless to say, we were impressed with the performance and they were able to demonstrate that they can deliver on both quality and reliability.'

The first gangway is scheduled to be delivered in March 2014.
