IRELAND: Transport Infrastructure Ireland placed a €36·5m order for seven Alstom Citadis trams on November 25.

To be built at Alstom’s La Rochelle factory, the trams are to be delivered in time for the opening of the Luas Cross City extension of the Green Line at the end of 2017. The €368m project will extend the route by 5·9 km from St Stephen’s Green to Cabra, adding 13 stops.

The trams will be similar to those currently in operation on the Green Line, but with nine modules instead of seven. At 54·6 m long, they will have capacity for 379 passengers. To accommodate the longer trams, platforms at existing Green Line stops will be extended. Maintenance will be carried out at both Sandyford and Broombridge depots.
