INDIA: Indian Railways has awarded a consortium of ADJ Engineering and its Russian partner TVEMA a Rs11bn contract to supply and operate rail defect monitoring vehicles. Noida-based ADJ said this was among the most significant railway infrastructure diagnostics contracts globally.

The deal includes the supply of 18 self-propelled ultrasonic rail testing vehicles, two eddy current measurement systems and 216 rail testing trolleys, along with seven years of operation and maintenance.

The two companies have previously supplied inspection vehicles to Indian Railways. The latest contract includes technology transfer from Russia, targeting 51% local content as part of the Make in India initiative.

‘Projects of this scale demonstrate Indian Railways’ bold commitment to safety, technological advancement, and infrastructure excellence, setting new global benchmarks in railway modernisation’, ADJ said when the contract award was confirmed in March.

The Indo-Russian consortium’s bid was reported to be 35% lower than a competing Indo-Ukrainian offer. Rail Technology International of Australia is also reported to have bid.
