BELARUS: Work has begun to develop a rail link from Minsk’s main station to the National Airport.
This will use the existing railway from Minsk through Kalodzishchy to Gorodishche station, then 18 km of new line which will be built to reach the airport.
The total length of the route would be 41·8 km, with a journey time of less than 30 min envisaged when the line opens in 2028-29.
Trains would run via the Great Stone Industrial Park which is being developed under an intergovernmental agreement with China. Announcing the project in October, Great Stone Industrial Park said the railway would provide it with a modern transport link to the capital and the airport, ‘further strengthening the park’s position as a major logistics and investment hub in the region’.
Belarus Railway launched a combined rail and bus service to the airport in November 2014, but this was suspended in 2017.
