
ROMANIA: Infrastructure manager CFR SA has awarded the Asocierea TrackWorks consortium of Alstom and Terna contracts for modernisation of two sections of the 225 km Craiova – Drobeta Turnu Severin – Caransebeș route totalling 83 km.
The enhancement package will enable passenger trains to run at up to 160 km/h and freight trains up to 120 km/h, while modernisation of the electrification systems will boost energy efficiency and reduce the railway’s environmental footprint.
Lot 1 covering the Craiova – Filiași section has a budget of €543m, and Lot 2 covering Filiași – Igiroasa has a budget of €449m.
The contract allows 12 months for studies folollowed by a 36 month construction period.
Terna’s participation in the consortium is set at 69% for Lot 1 and 74% for Lot 2, with its responsibilities covering civil works including station modernisation, replacing bridges, repairing the drainage system and improving embankments.
Alstom will supply ETCS, GSM-R communications, digital interlockings and passenger information systems and modernise the power supply and overhead electrification.
