The 42 month project will raise the maximum speed to 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight, with curves realigned, a new bridge built over the River Mureș and six bridges and nine stations refurbished. The 7 km Aradul Nou – Glogovăț line will be also upgraded within the scope of the package.

The second tranche of work is worth €295m and covers renewal and double-tracking of the 14 km Timișoara Est – Ronat Triaj line, along with investment in seven stations including Timişoara Nord.

The work is being funded from the National Recovery & Resilience Plan.
