Opened 2021; single metro line serving 18 stations. See Taichung network map.
The Green line is a standard gauge metro linking the high-speed station west of the city to Beitun Main in the north via City Hall and Daqing (16·7 km, 18 stations). Trial running began on November 16 2020, but was suspended five days later and opening planned for December 19 deferred; trial running resumed on March 25 2021, with formal reopening on April 25 2021.
Extensions are planned at either end: southwest from HSR Taichung to Changmei Rd (Changhua extension: 5·5 km, 5 stations) and east from Jiushe to Yuanshan New Village (Dakeng extension: 2·5 km, 2 stations).
The city’s proposed network includes the Blue line from Taichung Harbour southeast to the city centre (29·5 km, 20 stations), the Orange line from Taichung Airport in the north running south to Wufeng (29·3 km), and Purple line which would looparound the southeast of the city from Yuanshan to Daqing (16 km).
Taichung is also served by a section of TRA’s line from Fengyuan south to Daqing. The Taichung loop has been upgraded to create a metro-style operation (31·8 km, 9 stations) which entered service in October 2016; extension is proposed to Changhua.
