UK: South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive has appointed Turner & Townsend and Anturas to support the development of a business case for investment in the Sheffield Supertram light rail network, and its subsequent implementation.

The focus of the project will be on maintaining and modernising the track, rolling stock and supporting systems. The seven-year consultancy contract running to 2029 includes quantity surveying, project, cost and risk management and programme support services.

The contract announced on August 15 follows Turner & Townsend’s appointment to support West Yorkshire Combined Authority in developing a business case for its ambitious vision to develop a mass transit network.

‘Turner & Townsend has delivered high quality modern transport networks from Manchester and Edinburgh to Australia and beyond’, said Steven Jackson, Director of Infrastructure & UK Head of Light Rail & Mass Rapid Transit. ‘Using this experience, and our work across Yorkshire, we are committed to securing the Supertram for the next generation and ensuring it continues to provide safe, reliable, and sustainable transport for the region.’
