CANADA: Following a request for qualifications, the province of Ontario has invited four consortia to submit proposals for the Package 1 Civil & Utilities Work contract for the Hamilton Light Rail Transit project.
The teams are:
- Hamilton Synergy Alliance (applicant lead: AtkinsRéalis Major Projects);
- Steel City Alliance (applicant lead: Dufferin Construction Co);
- Kenaidan Murphy Joint Venture (applicant lead:- Murphy Infrastructure);
- Aecon Hamilton Transit LRT Partnership (applicant lead: Aecon Infrastructure Management).
The proposals will be evaluated and one consortium selected for the alliance development phase, which will see it work with Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area transport agency Metrolinx and its stakeholders to progress designs and a construction schedule.
‘Today, we’re one step closer to getting shovels in the ground on this critical transit project that will connect thousands of residents in Hamilton to good jobs and housing, while protecting Ontario workers in the face of [US] President Trump’s unfair tariffs’, said Ontario’s Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria on May 21. ‘Our government is delivering the largest transit expansion in North America to tackle gridlock, keep workers and families moving, and create good-paying jobs.’

The province and federal government are investing up to C$3·4bn in the Hamilton LRT, which will run on a 14 km route from McMaster University to Eastgate Square with 17 stops including City Hall, Hamilton Stadium and Eastgate Square.
Five advanced early works projects have already been completed, and four more are underway.
