UK: The Track Partnership collaboration of London Underground and Balfour Beatty Rail has installed its first novel sleeper design on the network in 30 years.
Cemex Rail Solutions’ 1502 is preassembled incorporating a Pandrol FE1404 rail fastening. This allows track to be constructed more quickly and cheaply, Balfour Beatty says. Insulators and pads are pre-installed in the the ‘parked’ position, which helps to reduce the complexity of the tracklaying process.
The sleepers arrive on site complete with all components pre-positioned to allow the rails to be threaded on, after which the Pandrol fastenings are driven on to the rails mechanically.
This preassembled approach can reduce track renewal times by up to 50% compared to methods previously used by LU.
