
INDIA: Chennai Metro Rail Ltd has formally awarded low bidder Alstom a €135m contract to supply and maintain 32 three-car Metropolis trainsets for its Phase II expansion programme.
The programme covers lines 3, 4 and 5 totalling 76 km of elevated and 43 km of underground line. The lines will be operated under contract by Delhi Metro Rail Corp.
The trainsets will be designed at Alstom’s Bengaluru engineering centre and built at Sri City. The contract includes 15 years of comprehensive maintenance after the warranty period, including cleaning, obsolescence management and maintenance of depot equipment.
Each 1 435 mm gauge 25 kV 50 Hz trainset will be formed of two driving motor cars and a central trailer, providing capacity for around 900 passengers. Each car will be 22·6 m long and 2 900 mm wide.
The trainsets will be fitted with ATO for GoA4 unattended operation, with a design speed of 90 km/h and a maximum service speed of 80 km/h. Sets will be able to operate in multiple.
