BHEL and Kawasaki Heavy Industries have signed an agreement for the production of metro rolling stock.

INDIA: BHEL and Kawasaki Heavy Industries signed a technology collaboration agreement on June 29 covering the manufacture of stainless steel metro cars and bogies.

Under the agreement, design, engineering and manufacturing facilities are to be established at BHEL’s Indian site using Japanese technology.

BHEL says that the agreement is part of a move to expand the company’s presence in urban transport, and will enable it to take advantage of the opportunities offered through the government’s Make in India programme.
