SEPTEMBER 10 saw the official opening of Alkmaar’s reconstructed inter-city station, following completion of a major rebuild.
The station has been fitted with escalators between the platforms and concourse to help handling of the 25 000 daily passengers. Platform canopies have been lengthened to provide better protection.
Additional retail space has been included, attracting more people to use the station area, and so providing a greater feeling of security for station users. Extra facilities include a cafe, a supermarket and a record shop. o
