ALSTOM Transport announced on April 4 that it had acquired Traxis from Royal Begemann Group. Based in Ridderkerk near Rotterdam, Traxis currently employs over 200 people. It has an annual turnover of 35m euros, with an order book that is expected to see a significant increase this year.

In addition to the supply of electric propulsion systems and electronic equipment for heavy rail, metro and light rail applications, Traxis now generates 20% of turnover from maintenance and refurbishment. In addition to providing Alstom with a stronger local presence in the Dutch rolling stock market, Traxis is to become a worldwide centre of excellence for the development of electric traction equipment.

Alstom Transport President Michel Moreau said he was ’delighted’ to secure a manufacturing presence for the company in the Netherlands. He felt that buying Traxis would enable Alstom to reinforce its position as the leading supplier of electric traction equipment.
