AN AFRICAN village is to be created in Helsinki to highlight the work of UATP, the African division of UITP, and the ProkInvest programme. Funded by the European Commission, ProkInvest aims to promote investment, trade and technology transfer from the European Union to Africa, where urban transport is developing rapidly under the pressure of massive urbanisation. The African village will be the focus for information on existing operators and authorities from the continent, and will provide an opportunity to discover more details of on-going projects, sources of funding, and products developed for African markets.A complementary Eurasian village will bring together public transport companies including the largest urban operators in Russia - Moscow Metro and Mosgortrans - as well as the supply industry. Exhibitors will present a wide range of products and services addressing issues such as safety and security, fare collection and passenger-friendly interchange design.n
