SPANISH national operator RENFE announced on October 30 that it had awarded contracts for the supply of 60 Civia EMUs, taking to 237 the number of these commuter trains ordered since 2000.

Under a contract worth €233·1m including maintenance over 14 years, CAF and Siemens are to supply 30 five-car Civia IV units. Alstom is to supply 30 EMUs for €220·8m, with deliveries from the Santa Perpètua de Mogoda plant outside Barcelona scheduled to take place from September 2009 to July 2010.

In both cases, Renfe's Integria rolling stock maintenance business will be responsible for 20% of construction and 50% of maintenance by total contract value.

Renfe currently operates 11 suburban networks across Spain, to be joined next year by a new unit serving Zaragoza.
