THE EUROPEAN INVESTMENT Bank is lending €75m to Belgian public transport operator SRWT to fund completion of the light metro system in Charleroi. The loan agreement was signed by EIB President Philippe Maystadt, SRWT Deputy Managing Director Jean-Marc Vandenbroucke and André Antoine, Transport Minister of the Walloon Region.

The project comprises new construction between Parc and Sud to complete the loop serving the city centre, as well as extensions to Soleilmont and Gosselies (RG 3.07 p127). According to SRWT, seven potential bidders have been selected to receive detailed tendering information.
