ASSET-PRO is in the advanced stages of developing a hosted software package for the management of train maintenance, ensuring that records can be passed from one franchisee to another when operating concessions are re-awarded.

Managing Director John Orchard said ’if we are to ensure that maintenance records are not lost when a franchise changes hands, with all the safety concerns that raises, then it seems sensible for a system such as that provided by Asset-Pro to be adopted right across the rail industry.’

The company developed its original facilities and asset management software to meet the needs of organisations involved in PPP projects. Accessed with a web browser, it provides real-time data for business analysis and management.

When New Southern Railway took over Britain’s South Central franchise from Connex in 2001 it inherited little information about the size and condition of the asset base. An Asset-Pro system was commissioned as part of the new franchisee’s upgrading programme, and is now used to manage planned and reactive maintenance at 170 stations, depots and other premises. Real-time information is available on all assets, giving Southern control over costs, suppliers and quality, with transparent management of information from initial commissioning through to invoice payment.

Commercial Director Vince Lucas believes Asset-Pro ’has brought a number of benefits to our business, including more effective planning and budgeting as well as ensuring compliance with statutory legislation. They assessed our needs and tailored their product to reflect those needs.’
