About the speakers

Dr Benedikt Weibel became Chief Executive Officer of Swiss Federal Railways in 1993. From 1991 to 1993 he was Director General and Head of the Operations Department. Dr Weibel was elected President of the International Union of Railways in 2003 and he is also a Member of the Board of Directors of French National Railways. Dr Weibel oversaw implementation of Switzerland’s ambitious Bahn 2000 project that culminated in December 2004 with the launch of a network-wide regular-interval timetable.

Roy A Allen is President of Transportation Technology Center, Inc, a subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads. Mr Allen is a previous Chairman and current Board Member of the International Heavy Haul Association, and he is the current Chairman of the World Congress on Railway Research. Mr Allen has 33 years of experience in railway research, starting with British Rail Research in Derby where he specialised in vehicle dynamics. His career in North American railway research included the post of Vice President of the AAR’s Research & Test Department in Washington DC, where he was responsible for the entire industry research programme and related activities in Chicago, Washington and Pueblo.
