China: Adtranz signed a joint venture agreement with Changchun Car Co on December 10; Changchun Adtranz Railway Co Ltd was due to be set up on January 1, with planned capacity of 160 vehicles per annum.

Czech Republic: CKD Tatra was renamed CKD Dopravní Systémy on November 28; it is widening its scope from tram and light rail cars to metro and main line vehicles, taking over some of CKD Trakce and Lokomotivka’s activities.

Great Britain: On January 1 Swiss-owned conduit and cable protection manufacturer PMA sets up a British subsidiary. PMA UK will be based in Andover, offering the company’s full range of nylon-based cable protectors, connectors and accessories.

WS Atkins has set up a railway subsidiary, WS Atkins Rail, to bring together its railway activities including recently acquired BR businesses CEDAC, PowerTrack and NTES.

USA: On December 10 Union Switch & Signal’s shareholders approved its merger with other Ansaldo/Finmeccanica signalling businesses to form Ansaldo Signal NV.

Yugoslavia: Valdunes of France and JZ are to set up a joint venture at Smederevo to manufacture wheelsets.
