China:Nokia and Shanghai Railway Communication Equipment Factory are to supply a Tetra digital radio network to Ningqi Railway Co for use from June on the Nanjing - Qidong line now under construction.

France:SNCF is planning to order 60 electric locomotives from Alstom to haul push-pull services in Ile-de-France. They will be derived from the BB427000 locomotives being built for Fret SNCF (RG 2.01 p123).

Germany:Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund has ordered 22 Bombardier Itino two-car diesel multiple-units worth €70m. Based on vehicles supplied to Sweden, the 140 km/h units will be used from December 2005 on regional services in the Odenwald region which are being put out to tender by RMV.

DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung GmbH has been awarded a contract to modernise 35 SBB coaches at its Neumünster workshops, and two Trenitalia contracts to modernise 103 coaches and 50 couchette cars at Neumünster and Wittenberge.

Vossloh Locomotives GmbH is to provide Connex subsidiary Nord-Ostsee-Bahn with fully serviced, fuelled and cleaned locos for 10 years from 2005 under an €80m traction contract. Initially 12 MaK DE 2700 locos will be supplied, with R3000 diesel locos worth €50m entering service in 2006.

Ireland:Iarnród éireann has ordered nine more DMUs from CAF, similar to vehicles ordered from the Spanish firm in 2000.

Israel:Bar-Hana has been awarded a contract to design the US$46m Jerusalem terminus of the fast line from Tel Aviv. Construction tenders will be called early in 2005.

Italy:Bombardier has won a €103m contract from Trenitalia for 48 more Traxx P160DCP locos for regional passenger services, to be delivered in 2005-06. Trenitalia has now ordered 288 of the 3·5MW, 160 km/h locos, and over 180 have been delivered.

Ferrovial of Spain has been awarded a €319·1m contract to double-track the 18·8 km San Lorenzo - Andora section of the Genova - Ventimiglia main line. With 16·3 km of the route in tunnel, work is expected to take 47 months to complete.

Kazakhstan:General Electric is to export equipment for the modernisation and life extension of 27 TE-10 locomotives, using a US$31·1m loan guarantee from Ex-Im Bank signed in December.

Malaysia:Contractor DRB-Hicom BhD has appointed Fuji Xerox Asia Pacific to provide document management technology for the Rawang - Ipoh track doubling and electrification project.

Russia:Skoda Holdings and RZD are developing proposals to modernise over 1000 Skoda locomotives which are in use on the Russian network.
