Australia: BHP Iron Ore has ordered a wagon dumper from Strachan & Henshaw valued at A$7m for its Port Hedland terminal.

Bulgaria: A US$23·8m contract to refurbish 50 BDZ passenger coaches has been awarded to Adtranz and MAV DVJ Kft of Hungary.

Czech Republic: Vodni Stavby AS has won a Kcs969m contract to upgrade a 9·6 km section of the CD network between Decin and the German border. Completion is scheduled for October 1998.

Egypt: Using funding from Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, ENR has signed a DM9m contract with the German arm of Adtranz to maintain and supply spares for 40 diesel locomotives. An option worth DM8m covers 45 more locos.

France: Dynicom interrogators from Amtech have been ordered for 150 sites on the SNCF network. Supplied through GEC Alsthom, the interrogators will read/write tags fitted to SNCF rolling stock.

Hungary: Cogeco of Italy is due to begin electrification of three MAV routes totalling 256 km by the end of March. Work on the Balatonszentgyorgy - Murakeresztur, Szekesfehervar - Szombathely and Rakospalota-Ujpest - Vacratot routes is scheduled for completion in 2000.

Lithuania: Vector International Inc is to supply Lithuanian Railways with rolling stock painting equipment valued at Lit3m for its Vilnius works.

Poland: Using European Investment Bank loan funds, PKP has called for bids to rebuild Zychlin and Nowy Tomysl stations.

Romania: Metalastik Vibration Control Systems has won a contract to supply rubber-metal bonded suspension components for 10 CFR electric locomotives being rebuilt by SC Caromet SA.

Sweden: Nordwaggon has ordered 100 steel coil wagons from Transtech for FM60m. Deliveries are to begin late this year for completion early in 1998.

USA: San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission has ordered eight double-deck commuter cars from Bombardier and has called tenders for two diesel locomotives, expected to cost US$1·7m each.

C A Rasmussen Inc has secured a US$6·3m contract to undertake track improvements at Los Angeles Union station for Southern California Regional Rail Authority.

Portec has installed 61 hydraulic lubrication systems and soil and ballast protection mats on BNSF’s Pasco - Auburn route. Rail rollover prevention devices and over 200 bonded, insulated rail joint plugs were also supplied.
