Australia: Queensland Rail has been awarded a A$2·4m contract running to December 2005 for rail grinding on WestNet Rail’s 1067mm gauge lines in Western Australia.

Brazil: CVRD has announced plans to buy 77 diesel locomoties and 2010 wagons to handle traffic rising at 9% a year.

China:Bombardier Sifang Power (Qingdao) Transportation Ltd has received a 233·6m yuan order from Chinese Railways for supply of an additional 17 dining cars and 21 sleeping cars from February 2004. The order follows a 1999 contract for 300 inter-city coaches, of which 82 are now in service.

Andrew Corp has completed installation of optic fibre and coaxial cables and communications equipment on Kowloon - Canton Railway’s West Rail route (p581) to allow passengers to use mobile telephones.

Siemens delivered five EuroRunner diesel locomotives based on the Austrian Class 2016 to Kowloon - Canton Railway in August.

Europe: The Greenbrier Companies has received orders for over 500 freight wagons from Deutsche Bahn and Transwaggon GmbH. The wagons will be built at the WagonySwidnica facility in Poland.

Germany: DB has ordered another 20 four-car Class 425.4 electric multiple-units from Bombardier for €90m. The 140 km/h trains are due to enter service on the RheinNeckar S-Bahn network from summer 2004.

Italy: HP srl has won a contract to supply sliding plug doors for the 33 metro trainsets being built by CAF for Roma Line A.

Luxembourg: CFL has ordered 20 Class 185.1 15 kV/25 kV dual-system locos from Bombardier, to be delivered from September 2004 at a cost of €62m.

Netherlands: Freight operator Shortlines has taken delivery of the first of two Vossloh G2000 locos leased from Angel Trains Cargo for domestic freight traffic. The second will be delivered in October.

Portugal: Alcatel is to supply and install LockTrac 6111 interlockings, NetTrac controls and passenger information systems on Refer’s upgraded southern main line between Barreiro and Pinhal Nova, south of Lisboa.

Russia: Minister of Railway Transport Gennadi Fadeyev said 450 new carriages are to be ordered for long-distance services by the end of the year, and a further 950 next year.

Spain: Tenders are to be called for civil works on the 5·3 km Novelé - Xàtiva section of the Madrid - Valencia high speed line. Work is expected to take 24 months to complete within a budget of €59·3m.

USA: Union Pacific has tripled its order with Trinity Industries for 19·5m Carrier Ultima Premium refrigerated wagons to 1500 vehicles, for use on Express Lane perishables services.

Alaska Railroad is to purchase eight GM-EMD SD-70MAC 4300hp locos modified for use in the cold climate. Costing a total of $19m, they will be delivered from late 2004.
