China: CSEE Transport of France has been awarded a HK$150m contract to supply a station management system for MTR Corp. CSEE will act as main contractor in association with KM Luk and MITS Ltd.

Fujitsu General Ltd of Japan is supplying 120 Plasma Vision panels for MTR Corp’s Airport Railway in Hong Kong. Information displayed will include flight arrivals and departures.

Barclay Mowlem of Australia has been awarded a contract to build trackwork for the North Point - Quarry Bay line of MTR Corp.

Beijing Railway Signal Factory and CSEE Transport have been awarded a 70m yuan contract to supply Ansaldo Signal UM71TM track circuits for the 400 km Shenyang - Shanhaiguan route. Production will be divided equally between France and China.

Great Britain: AEA Technology has been awarded a £795000 contract by GEC Alsthom Signalling Ltd to develop software to provide an interface between axle counters and the Solid State Interlocking system. Axle counters would replace track circuits on long track sections or routes with less traffic.

Centrac has been awarded £54m track renewal contract covering Railtrack’s East Anglia Zone. The contract runs for three years, with an option to extend for a further two years.

Greece: OSE has awarded a DM200m contract to Kioleides SA and MAV Adtranz Dunakeszi Wagon Manufacturing & Repair Kft of Hungary for the supply and refurbishment of coaches. The contract runs until 2001 and includes the manufacture of 79 coaches and seven sleeping cars.

Ireland: Iarnród éireann has ordered five two-car EMUs for the Dublin Area Rapid Transit system from GEC Alsthom Transporte of Spain at a cost of Pts2·7m. Comprising a motor and trailer car accommodating a total of 414 passengers, the trainsets are due to enter service in early 1999.

British Steel Track Products has been awarded an exclusive two-year contract to supply rail to Iarnród éireann. The first shipments were due to leave the Port of Workington last month.

Italy: GEC Alsthom ACEC Transport of Belgium is to supply electrical equipment and bogies for 10 EMUs ordered by Consorzio Trasporti Publici Lazio for the Roma - Viterbo line. The first trainset is scheduled for delivery in April 1999, with car bodies and air-conditioning equipment supplied by Costaferroviaria.

Japan: The Transportation Bureau of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has ordered escalators and lifts worth a total of ´2·2bn for the 26 stations of metro Line 12, scheduled to open in 2000. In conjunction with Marubeni Corp, Schindler Elevatorer A/S, a unit of Schindler Holding Ltd of Switzerland, is to supply 120 escalators and Kone Oy of Finland 55 lifts.

Morocco: Moroccan Railways has called tenders for the supply of a multi-functional track maintenance appliance.

Poland: Krakow Tramway has ordered 14 three-section articulated light rail vehicles from DWA of Germany, under a contract worth 70m zloty. Assembly of the 70% low-floor vehicles may be undertaken in the operator’s works.
