Michael P Pracht has been named Vice President, Marketing and Sales for Siemens Transportation Systems Inc.

Norberto Achille has been named President of Ferrovie Nord Milano.

Ronald J Conway has been named Executive Vice President-Operations for CSX Transportation Inc, replacing Carl N Taylor who has retired.

E F Makeev has been appointed Director General of Russian Ministry of Railways’ supply company Zheldorsnab. Other Russian Railways appointments include A B Yefimov, Vice-President of the Sverdlovsk Railway, responsible for finance; V E Kauts, Vice-President of East Siberian Railway, responsible for economics and A V Poltlov, Vice-President of North Caucasian Railway, responsible for track & structures. K M Simonov has been appointed Director, Locomotive Department for the October Railway, where A A Zaitsev has been released from his position as President.

Eurotunnel Co-Chairman Robert Malpas CBE FEng was awarded a knighthood in Britain’s Queen’s Birthday Honours announced in June. Former London Transport Chairman Peter Ford was awarded a CBE.

Giancarlo Cimoli has resigned as President of high speed infrastructure subsidiary TAV, now 100% owned by FS, to concentrate on his work as Managing Director of FS. He will be replaced at TAV by Umberto Bertele. Cesare Ferrero has taken over as President of FS property subsidiary Metropolis.

Bernard Dolphin has been named President of Bombardier Transportation Atlantique Europe, business based at the ANF site at Crespin, France. He will remain President of ANF and of BN in Belgium. Peter Witt, currently President of DWA, will become President of the Continental Europe unit based in Berlin.

Leon Williams has been elected for a second four-year term as Chairman of San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit Development Board.

Kjell Nilsson will take over as Managing Director of Stockholm Transport (SL) from October, replacing Leif Axén.

Dr Albert J Reinschmidt has joined TTCI as Vice President of Marketing & Business development, and Robert E Gallamore has been seconded from UP to head the joint AAR/FRA/Illinois Department of Transportation Positive Train Control project.

Vincent V Rea has been named Corporate Treasurer at ABC Rail Products Corp. Joseph T Sabatino has joined ABC’s Wheel Services Division as Vice President, Sales & Marketing.

Denis Tunnicliffe CBE has been appointed Chief Executive of London Transport.

Mark Holden has been named Commercial Manager for National Rail Corp in Australia.

Stig Svärd has been appointed Country Manager of Adtranz Poland and President of Adtranz Pafawag. He replaces Czeslaw Soltysiak. Edward Blaszczyk becomes Deputy Chairman of Adtranz Pafawag, Senior Vice-President, Business Development and Customer & Political Relations.

John Welsby has been re-appointed part-time Chairman of the British Railways Board.

Mac Macintosh is to leave Britain’s Gatwick Express train operator to join the National Express team bidding for train and tram franchises in Melbourne.

John Hearsch has retired as Group General Manager, Freight, for Queensland Rail after 40 years in the Australian railway industry.

Gary Latham has been appointed Operations Director for Marcroft Engineering.

Reynaldo S Barinas has become Director International Sales & Marketing for Safetran, not Manager as stated in RG 5.98 p290.

CAPTION: Hans Rat has taken over as Secretary General of the International Union of Public Transport (UITP). He replaces Pierre Laconte who has stepped down after 15 years. Drs Rat is a Director of Dutch operator VSN Groep. He has been active in UITP for many years, most recently as a vice-president and Chairman of the UITP Commission on Transport Economics. Dr Laconte will become an advisor to RATP President & Director General Jean-Paul Bailly.
