PLANS FOR a light rail route to the northern suburb of Riedberg were announced by the head of Frankurt-am-Main’s Transport Department Lutz Sikorski on December 21. He said 70% of the funding for the k60m project had been secured.Riedberg will be served by a loop linking U-Bahn Route U3 at Niederursel with U2 at Kalbach. Route U31 will link Riedberg with S?dbahnhof, sharing the U3 tracks along Eschersheimer Landstrasse. An orbital Route U41 will run from Nieder-Eschbach on U2 to Ginnheim on U1 via Riedberg, Niederursel and a new curve from U3 to U1 at Heddernheimer Landstrasse.Work is to start later this year for opening in 2009. With a cost-benefit ratio of 1:1?3, the scheme is seen as better value than a k210m plan to extend the U-Bahn Line D tunnel to Riedberg, which would not be finished before 2012-13.
