USA: Utah Transit Authority has ordered a further 10 MPXpress diesel locomotives from Wabtec's MotivePower subsidiary, the manufacturer announced on February 6.

The locos will be built at MotivePower's plant at Boise in Idaho, for delivery in 2010. They will be deployed on UTA's FrontRunner commuter line between Salt Lake City and Ogden, which is expected to carry its first passengers this year (RG 1.07 p23).

MotivePower was also awarded a four-year contract for the maintenance at UTA's Salt Lake City depot of a previous batch of 11 locos which were supplied to the operator last year. Wabtec said the 10 additional locos and the maintenance contract are worth a total of $31m.
