FOURCONSORTIA have been shortlisted for a 25-year concession to operate Jordan’s 283 km 1050mm gauge Aqaba Railway, extendable by five year options. The winner will also finance the construction of extensions to El Shidiya and Wadi II under a build-transfer-operate arrangement.

The government of Jordan is being advised on the privatisation process by CPCS Transcom of Canada. Expressions of interest were called in February, and 16 groups were prequalified in March. Of these, eight consortia submitted Technical Proposals on July 5 and four have passed the technical evaluation stage. A formal Request for Financial Proposals will be delivered this month, with responses due by November 12. The four successful groupings are:
