ASCOM is to supply ticketing equipment for use across regional rail, light metro and local bus services in Rennes.

The French city will launch an integrated multimodal ticketing scheme in mid-2005, with contactless smart cards replacing the existing paper tickets on services forming part of the local transport network.

A single smart card will be useable on regional rail and bus services across Brittany, and the technology will interface seamlessly with the existing ticketing on the city’s VAL light metro (MR02 p49).

Following requests from regional authorities, SNCF is planning to introduce an Ascom contactless ticket validator for use on its regional rail services, which would allow full integration with other networks.
