WSP Group is leading architects John McAslan & Partners and Chapman Taylor in a £3·9m design and development study for a £350m project to regenerate Birmingham New Street station. A new concourse is proposed for opening in 2011, with a glass roof to allow natural lighting.

SNCF has commissioned Parkeon to supply and install over 300 ticket vending machines at regional stations. The DBR2 machines will be customised version of Parkeon’s Galexio range, offering the possibility of contactless ticketing.

In June Docklands Light Railway signed a £11·5m contract with Hochtief (UK) Construction for a new two-platform DLR station at Stratford. Intended to increase capacity at the major interchange, the facility will replace a single platform which is to close in December 2006.

Birse Metro has won a £3·9m contract running to 2007 for work on a subway at Walthamstow Central station on London Underground’s Victoria Line.

Under a $635182 contract, Dewolff Partnership is designing a replacement Puritas station on Cleveland’s Red Line. Design will be completed by April 2006, when a construction contract will be let to allow opening in March 2008.
