Tranz Rail has launched the Best of New Zealand Pass for use by tourists. In addition to the company’s long distance trains and inter-island ferries, it is valid on some heritage railways and coach services. However, it cannot be used on the subsidised commuter services around Wellington and Auckland.
Cards with a value of 600, 800 or 1000 points can be purchased, and points are deducted each time a journey is made. The cards are priced so as to offer around a one-third discount on standard adult fares. o
