Africa: Tazara is to repair the 865 defective wagons out of the fleet of 1853 that are currently out of use. US$500000m has been allocated to repair an initial 500 wagons by the end of 2010.

Australia: On September 1 CSR Ziyang signed a 100m yuan contract to supply diesel locomotives to SCT Logistics, its first export order for AC traction locomotives.

China: CSR Sifang has rolled out a metro car for Beijing's Changping Line featuring its SDB -140 bogie which is designed to permit 100 km/h running. The stainless steel body design has been optimised to reduce weight by 5%.

Czech Republic: Under a 10-year leaseback agreement with ING Lease, CSOB Leasing and SG Equipment Finance, CD has awarded ZOS Trnava a Kc2·2bn contract to modernise 58 Aee, Apee, Bee and Bpee coaches used on EC and IC services.

France: Alstom has received a firm order to supply RATP with a further 25 Citadis trams for Paris Line T3 within a framework agreement signed in December 2003. The order is worth up to €85m including spares and tools, with delivery in 2012.

Tours transport authority Sitcat has awarded Alstom a €73·2m contract to supply 21 Citadis trams for the 15 km line due to open in late 2013. APS catenary-free electrification will be installed on 1·8 km of the route.

Germany: On August 24 Hamburger Sparkasse and KfW IPEX-Bank signed a €74m agreement to fund eight four-car double-deck EMUs, three two-section GTW 2/6 diesel units and a Regio-Shuttle RS1 diesel railcar being built by Stadler for BeNEX (RG 2.10 p10). They are needed for the Netz Stadtbahn operating contracts in Berlin-Brandenburg (RG 9.09 p9).

AEG Power Solutions is to supply Bombardier with customised battery chargers for 83 ET430 electric multiple-units ordered by DB Regio.

South Korea: Iran Khodro has signed a contract to supply wagon components worth €14m.

New Zealand: Singapore's Sembawang shipyard is to lengthen KiwiRail's 150 m long Aratere Inter­islander train ferry by 30 m to increase capacity. The bow will be redesigned to improve energy efficiency.

Philippines: Trelleborg is to supply Metalastik Chevron springs to replace components which were suffering from creep on Kinki Sharyo cars operating Manila LRT Line 1.

Poland: Lodz interurban tram operator Tramwaje Podmiejskie has bought six former Mannheim GT6 trams from Grudziadz.

Russia: RZD has signed a contract for TMH's Roslokomotiv subsidiary to maintain electric locomotives at three depots with payment based on usage. TMH said creating a network of service centres will enable it to monitor its products throughout their life cycle and help to inform future developments.

Freight forwarder Transgarant has signed the first major agreement to purchase wagons from Tikhvin Railway Car Building Plant, covering 15000 wagons in 2011-14. They will be a mix of open, flat and hopper vehicles, with the prices fixed as firm orders are placed.

Sogema Engineering has supplied the Tikhvin plant with 16 bogie turn­tables, three of 23 tonne capacity and the rest of 9 tonne capacity.

NefteTransService paid 1·73bn roubles for 10000 open wagons auctioned by RZD on August 24.

South Africa: Booyco Engineering is supplying heating and air-conditioning units for 50 EMD locomotives ordered by Transnet Freight Rail.

Switzerland: SBB has awarded EnerSys-Oerlikon a 12-year contract to replace battery systems on its 44 ICN tilting trainsets.

UK: Nomad Digital is to provide train-to-shore data communications for remote monitoring systems which Alstom is to install on 93 Networker EMUs operated by Southeastern.

This month ScotRail will begin putting into service the 38 Class 380 Desiro EMUs ordered from Siemens (RG 1.10 p58).

USA: Bombardier has received a second order from New Jersey Transit for the supply of 100 double-deck commuter coaches. The $267m contract includes options for up to 79 more vehicles. NJT ordered 329 cars in 2003.

Norfolk Southern has ordered a further four PR43C remanufactured locomotives from Progress Rail Services following trials with two prototypes. They have two engines of 3600 hp and 700 hp which can work in tandem.
