USA: California’s Orange County Transportation Authority has selected HNTB Corp to design the OC Streetcar project, which is intended to provide easy ‘last mile’ connections from Metrolink trains and buses to employment, retail and recreational areas.

The line would run 6·6 km from Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center through downtown Santa Ana and along a former Pacific Electric Railway right-of-way to a new multimodal transit hub at Harbor Boulevard and Westminster Avenue in Garden Grove. Serving 10 stops, the line would have a fleet of eight trams.

State and federal environmental clearance processes were completed in March. Construction is expected to begin in 2017, for opening in 2020. The cost of the project is estimated at $289m.
