USA: The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority held a groundbreaking ceremony on December 2 for the next phase of the light rail route.

The 19·8 km eastern extension from APU/Citrus College in Glendora to Montclair will add six stops. Main construction work is due to begin in 2020, with ‘substantial completion’ expected in 2026.

Funding for the $1·5bn project is coming from Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. San Bernardino County is funding the Claremont – Montclair section. The remainder is funded mostly through Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Measure M 0·5% sales tax, making it the first project funded through Measure M to break ground. Residual Measure R tax proceeds are also contributing.
