INDONESIA: Jakarta suburban rail operator PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia has started testing electric multiple-units built by domestic supplier PT Inka and CRRC Sifang. The 12-car units are to be deployed on the 1 067 mm gauge Jabodetabek commuter rail network around the capital.

The first of 16 trainsets being supplied by PT Inka was delivered to the capital in mid-April, following initial test runs at the manufacturer’s plant and on the Solo – Yogyakarta main line.
CRRC Sifang is supplying 12 trainsets under a Rp783bn contract awarded in February 2024. Three of these have been delivered so far and are now undergoing testing.
Both train types are required to complete 4 000 km of test runs on the Jabodetabek network before entering revenue service.

The Jabodetabek network carries almost 1 million passengers/day on weekdays. Most service are currently operated by secondhand Japanese EMUs, which are being overhauled by PT Inka under a long-term agreement.
