SERBIA: National passenger operator Srbija Voz has awarded CAF a contract to supply 30 electric multiple-units for use on BG Voz suburban services around Beograd.
CAF said the new trainsets are intended to replace older rolling stock that is nearing the end of its service life, enabling the provision of a more reliable and higher quality service with greater train availability.
The contract announced on March 30 is worth more than €300m, including two years of full maintenance. It is the Spanish manufacturer’s second order from Serbia, following a 2009 contract for 30 trams which are now in service in the capital.
The three-car Civity EMUs will have a capacity of 546 passengers, including 204 seated. They will have six multi-purpose areas with space for up to 18 bicycles.
These trains will have a lightweight aluminium construction drawing on CAF’s international experience with this type of EMU, and conventional rather than articulated bogies. They will have a maximum speed of 120 km/h, with a focus on acceleration and deceleration between frequent suburban stops.
